Day 472: Pranayama Pie

Wednesday August 7th

More playing today, and some mask work. I’m liking these people more and more. Gaba, a Slovakian actress who has a young child. She’s playful and very funny. Florencia, Argentinia and so vibrant it almost hurts. She’s fluent in French as well as English, both with a very satisfying accent. Laconic German Günther – doesn’t say much but what he does is well worth waiting for. Beary Czech Stan, French Cécile, all ginger curls and hilarity. So many more people. The morning took a long time to get going but this afternoon’s playing was a real delight.

We made masks by sticking a flour/salt/oil dough to a decorative kind of mask. Still made it pretty good and it’s given me workshop ideas for sure – I’ve been wondering for ages how to make mask-making quicker (and therefore more accessible for kids) without losing the kinaesthetic satisfaction of sculpting a face. I loved the scenes we did with them. They were ace pie.

We went for a little forest walk, the whole group of us, which ended with a very pleasant stroll through heavy rain on the way back. While some people cowered under trees, those of us who love to get rained on made the most of it. No harm done and I wouldn’t change a single thing. The wildflowers and sweet peas we passed were humblingly pretty, their greens and pinks and purples lit up with poppy reds and pansy oranges, streaked with black.

I did pranayama, meditation and chanting this morning. It rocked, though I was a bit pigeon-pecky during satsang (I dropped my Kirtan book thanks to being blatantly asleep). I also had 45 minutes of actual napping when I got back to the room after breakfast.

My, I ate some good vegetables today. Can’t beat that.
